Can a team of all Americans (well nearly!) challenge for the W League fantasy title? There’s only one way to find out….
So after a strong Round 1 scoring 114 points, Round 2 went even better! A score of 120 points propelled ‘American Dream’ in to 16th on the global leaderboard with 234 points.
After making one transfer, bringing in Canberra’s Kaleigh Kurtz for the non-playing Perth Glory midfielder Morgan Andrews, the team for Round 2 lined up as follows:
Goalkeeper = Aubrey Bledsoe (Sydney FC) (40,000)
Defenders = Sofia Huerta (Sydney FC) (£60,000), Emily Menges (Melbourne Victory) (£45,000), Sam Staab (Western Sydney Wanderers) (£35,000), Julia Ashley (Adelaide United) (£35,000), Kaleigh Kurtz (Canberra United) (£35,000)
Midfielders = Haley Hanson (Melbourne Victory) (£40,000), Celeste Boureille (Brisbane Roar) (£45,000), Olivia Price (Canberra United) (£17,500)
Strikers = Simone Charley (Canberra United) (£35,000), Kristen Hamilton (WSW) (£50,000)
Bench = Amber Brooks (Adelaide United) (£60,000), Rylee Baisden (Brisbane Roar) (£17,500), Chelsie Dawber (Adelaide United) (£15,000), Trudy Burke (Sydney FC) (£15,000)
Unsure on whether Brisbane Roar would use Rylee Baisden, I stuck with a 5-3-2 formation bringing Kurtz in for Amber Brooks who scored lowly in Round 1. Celeste Boureille returned to the starting line-up after Brisbane Roar did not play last round in place of Andrews. Australian midfielder, Olivia Price had to again feature, due to there only being three American midfielders in the game (No Perth game meant no Andrews) and a minimum of 3 midfielders have to start.
Round 2
Sofia Huerta was again named as my captain, clocking up 14 points which were doubled. Both Sam Staab and Kristen Hamilton netted 16 points each. Haley Hanson and Aubrey Bledsoe also netted double figures with 13 and 11 respectively. Last week’s start Simone Charley scored 9 as well as Celeste Boureille. Julia Ashley scored 7 and Emily Menges 6. Olivia Price and Kaleigh Kurtz disappointed this week with the latter getting booked resulting in one sole point.
Points were dropped on the bench with Rylee Baisden starting for Brisbane Roar as she would have scored me 8 points from the 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory.
Round 3 Preview
With no Melbourne Victory game this week, Emily Menges and Haley Hanson will not feature. Therefore my transfer will be Menges making way for the return of Morgan Andrews. The Perth Glory midfielder will be back in action as they host Sydney FC.
With no action for Hanson, Australian Olivia Price will again be forced to play, the last week of a non-American starting line-up for now (As long as there are no midfield injuries)!
I will adopt a 4-3-3 formation this week with Baisden moving to the starting line-up with Hanson moving to the bench and Andrews in the starting line-up.
