Can a team of all Americans (well nearly!) challenge for the W League fantasy title? There’s only one way to find out….
After a busy start to the year, an eventful one in Australia to say the least, I have managed to sit down and pen an update about American Dream during the international break. The team of Americans currently sit in 13th position on the global leaderboard with a grand total of 1199 points after 11 rounds. The team currently lines up as follows:
Goalkeeper = Aubrey Bledsoe (Sydney FC) ($40,000)
Defenders = Sofia Huerta (Sydney FC) ($60,000), Kaleigh Kurtz (Canberra United) ($35,000), Emily Menges (Melbourne Victory) ($45,000), Sam Staab (Western Sydney Wanderers) ($35,000)
Midfielders = Morgan Andrews (Perth Glory) ($40,000), Celeste Boureille (Brisbane Roar) ($45,000), Haley Hanson (Melbourne Victory) ($40,000)
Strikers = Simone Charley (Canberra United) ($35,000), Rylee Baisden (Brisbane Roar) ($17,500), Kristen Hamilton (WSW) ($50,000),
Bench = Julia Ashley (Adelaide United) ($35,000), Chelsie Dawber (Adelaide United) ($15,000), Courtney Nevin (WSW) ($17,500), Abby Smith (WSW) ($35,000).
Round 11
With 3 teams without fixtures this gameweek, I thought I had it covered but with injury to Abby Smith and Julia Ashley I missed out on points from two player slots. Kristen Hamilton took over the captaincy from Huerta scoring 9 points which was doubled. My highest scorer of the gameweek was Perth’s Morgan Andrews netting an impressive 19 points from midfield. Emily Menges and Sam Staab both scored 13 from defence. Haley Hanson recorded nine points with Simone Charley registering 5. I was forced to use both non-American players this week with Olivia Price and Courtney Nevin both scoring three due to the shortage of American midfielders. Kaleigh Kurtz came off the bench for the injured Ashley contributing seven points. The week’s total was 90 and although it keeps me on top of the admin league, the gap is closing with three gameweeks remaining.
Round 12 Preview
With the run-in now in full swing, tactical transfers are coming in. Due to a lack of American midfielders, two players for this position have to be non-American. I started the season with Adelaide’s Chelsie Dawber before turning to Nevin but this decision has backfired. Therefore Dawber returns to my squad in place of Canberra’s Olivia Price due to the Green Army short of a fixture in the latter gameweeks. I will look to bring in Mallory Weber for Simone Charley next week. The Sydney derby will prove to be a feisty affair after WSW won 5-0 in the first season encounter. I am remaining with Huerta as captain in the hope that Sydney FC has some vengeance to serve.
