Prediction:
This will be the second and final meeting between the teams in the 2022 regular season. When these teams last met in June, it was Chicago who emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. Helping to heighten the stakes for this fixture is the fact that these teams are sitting right next to each other in the league table and are both just above the playoff line.
Both teams enter this match following encouraging performances. Chicago routed Racing Louisville while Reign snatched a last-minute come-from-behind victory against Orlando Pride. The match will likely feature variation in style with Reign looking to maintain possession and Chicago aiming to apply pressure and translate turnovers into quick-strike attacks. The game will take place in Seattle, which bodes well for Reign considering they’ve only lost once there in the regular season. However, it will be difficult to keep Chicago from scoring if Mal Pugh demonstrates the type of dominant offense she showed the last time she suited up for Chicago. For that reason, don’t be surprised if this match ends in a draw with a goal scored by each side.
