Washington is one of the only three remaining undefeated teams in the league (along with Portland and Houston), and the Spirit have a number of great fantasy options. With only two players above a cost of $250k, there is plenty of FNWSL value to be found in DC.

The Spirit boast three stellar goal scorers in Trinity Rodman, Ashley Hatch, and Ashley Sanchez (Sanchez is classified as a midfielder for FNWSL). Last season, Hatch led the team in goals with nine (five ahead of Rodman), but it appears that there will be a more even distribution of chances and goals this season. Rodman has a slight lead in fantasy points over Hatch so far (51 to 49) and is leading the team in chances created. The difference in cost between the two ($350k to $225k) makes Hatch still a little more valuable for fantasy at the moment, but keep an eye on Rodman as the season continues.

The most underrated aspect of the Spirit, however, has to be the defense. All four of Washington’s starters are in the top 25 FNWSL DFs, and none cost more than $250k: Tara McKeown, Sam Staab, Gabrielle Carle, and Dorian Bailey. McKeown has scored 35 points so far while the other three are all tied at 29. I’d give McKeown the edge here, considering she’s leading the team in clearance and accurate passes (while basically playing as a converted winger) at left back. Don’t forget that she also logged three goals and an assist last season. Staab would be my second choice as she’s leading the team in interceptions and blocks, and frequently takes corner kicks for the Spirit.
