The Lionesses head to the Midlands to face Germany at Molineux Stadium, in their
final fixture where a win could see them crowned winners of the inaugural Arnold
Clark Cup if Canada fail to beat Spain.
England manager Sarina Wiegman has been disappointed with her side’s inability to
finish the chances created in their last two matches with England scoring just a
single goal this tournament courtesy of Millie Bright.
However, Wiegman’s side remain unbeaten this tournament despite playing some of
their toughest international opponents. The England manager identified the
tournament as a learning curve for the side, stating to the press “it’s a way to figure
out things and try out things which might influence the score.” She also commented
on how pleased she is with the squad she’d inherited and that they’re “even better”
than she’d hoped.
With the Euros on the horizon, England will be happy with the defensive solidity
they’ve displayed this tournament but will be hoping they can get their attack firing on
all cylinders come Wednesday night and come the European Championships this
summer.
On the other hand, Germany were defeated by Canada last time out and managed
to rescue a point late on against Spain in their first fixture. However, they’ve showed
promising signs in both games meaning their match against England will be an
interesting encounter especially with the historic rivalry between the two countries.
With Canada and Spain facing off before the Lionesses, England’s hopes of winning
could be ended before kick-off. However, there is plenty still to play for in the tie
particularly pride which the players will be reminded of by an expected mega crowd
in the stadium aswell as strong support from those at home.
