It’s part two as we take a look at the highest scoring attacking displays throughout the 2019/20 season, the midfielders and forwards!

This week we take a look at the best attacking performances of the season from midfield and the forward line. When managers choose their sides at the start of the season, lots of thought goes into the attacking prowess of a side. Goals and assists catch the eye with names like Vivianne Miedema, Fran Kirby and Ellen White the high profile names to be the first on many a teamsheet. When it comes to ShePlays though, the attacking bonus system can work wonders for managers considering how to work their budget. With extra points accredited for the number of passes, shots and crosses each player has as well as shots on target and chances created, the process of choosing a side becomes even more exciting. So with this in mind, we look back at the 2019/20 season at the players with the highest scoring individual performances of the campaign.

MIDFIELDERS

Katie Zelem – Manchester United 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur– Round 13 – 27 points

The Manchester United midfielder had a stellar first season in the WSL and in Round 13 recorded a bumper haul. Zelem scored twice and assisted once as United beat Spurs 3-0 in Manchester. With 9 attacking points also attributed to the England youth international managers who made the £27,500 investment were left beaming.

Lucy Staniforth – Birmingham 2-0 Liverpool – Round 5 – 25 points

England International, Staniforth was an influential part of the Birmingham team throughout the 2019/20 campaign and recorded an impressive 25 point tally in Round 5. The Blues won a vital tie at the base of the table as they saw off a Liverpool side which would go on to get relegated. The Birmingham midfielder scored a goal and recorded an assist in a 2-0 victory at Solihull. With 11 attack points as well, the commanding midfielder inspired the side to victory and will be sorely missed next season as she moves on to Manchester United.

Jordan Nobbs – Arsenal 11-1 Bristol City – Round 8 – 25 points

The first of three players to feature from ‘that game’ as Arsenal defeated Bristol City comfortably in North London. Nobbs was instrumental in the heart of midfield scoring once. The England international benefitted from the ShePlays bonus point system hugely, scoring 10 attack points and five for her defensive contributions.

FORWARDS

Lisa Evans – Arsenal 11-1 Bristol City – Round 8 – 37 points

Arsenal’s attackers ran riot in Round 8 as they put 11 past Bristol City at Borehamwood. Scottish international Lisa Evans scored twice and assisted twice in the 11-1 victory. With 11 bonus attacking points as well, Evans caused havoc for the Bristol defence in a performance that recorded a 37 point haul.

Vivianne Miedema – Arsenal 11-1 Bristol City– Round 8 – 59 points

Arguably the season’s stand out star, the Dutch striker recorded a record 59 point tally in Round 8. Miedema scored six goals and was accredited with four assists as the Gunners dispatched Bristol. With an additional nine attacking points on top of the double hattrick gave the goal scoring machine bumper total. Remarkably, Miedema did not play the full ninety minutes and just to add to the pain of managers without the striking sensation, that total is doubled for those who captained her….

Beth England – Chelsea 6-1 Bristol City – Round 12 – 30 points

The joint WSL top scorer (with Miedema), Beth England has had a campaign to remember. Two of her 14 goals this season came in Round 12 as Bristol City were again at the butt of a big away defeat. With a terrifying attack, the Champions were in fine form with England spearheading the side. The England international recorded an additional 15 attack points, the highest of the campaign to finish the round with a grand total of 30.

BONUS

Ji So-Yun– Chelsea 6-1 Bristol City – Round 12 – 29 points

Chelsea Midfielder Ji was initially missed off of the graphic but who could ignore her 29 point haul in Round 12. As mentioned before Chelsea defeated Bristol in Wimbledon with the South Korean international at the heart of all things positive. Two goals, one assist and 10 attacking points led to a bumper return for Ji.

When it comes to attacking threats for any manager, the ShePlays bonus point system HAS to be considered. If players take this into consideration, high scores can easily become a probability rather than a possibility in next season’s competition.
