Can a team of all Americans (well nearly!) challenge for the W League fantasy title? There’s only one way to find out….

Amazingly this team are up to 4th on the global leaderboard with a grand total of 605 points after 5 rounds. This week, ‘American Dream’ scored 136 points with the games highest scorer, Sofia Huerta again leading the way. The Sydney player is down as a defender but finds herself playing further up the field producing a haul of points, all which have been doubled as my captain this campaign. Bringing in Mallory Weber for Chelsie Dawber, my team took one more American player and it proved to be a worthwhile transfer. Western Sydney Wanderers were the side to miss out on a fixture this week so no game for Sam Staab or Kristen Hamilton. Therefore the team lined up as follows:

Goalkeeper = Aubrey Bledsoe (Sydney FC) ($40,000)

Defenders = Sofia Huerta (Sydney FC) ($60,000), Kaleigh Kurtz (Canberra United) ($35,000), Emily Menges (Melbourne Victory) ($45,000), Julia Ashley (Adelaide United) ($35,000)

Midfielders = Morgan Andrews (Perth Glory) ($40,000), Celeste Boureille (Brisbane Roar) ($45,000), Haley Hanson (Melbourne Victory) ($40,000)

Strikers = Simone Charley (Canberra United) ($35,000), Mallory Weber (Adelaide United) ($40,000), Rylee Baisden (Brisbane Roar) ($17,500)

Bench = Olivia Price (Canberra United) ($17,500), Sam Staab (Western Sydney Wanderers) ($35,000), Kristen Hamilton (WSW) ($50,000), Trudy Burke (Sydney FC) ($15,000)

Round 5

Sofia Huerta was again named as my captain for the fifth consecutive week, this time clocking up 16 points which were doubled. She is the highest scoring player in the ShePlays W-League game so far this campaign with 73. Mallory Weber was a brilliant signing, scoring to record an impressive 25 points. Another goal from Simone Charley saw her record 14 points and with an assist from Kaleigh Kurtz who recorded 12 points. Rylee Baisden was also in double figures with 13 as well as Aubrey Bledsoe on 12. Morgan Andrews scored 8 receiving a yellow card, while Emily Menges score 7 although being named in the W-League team of the week. Celeste Boureille had a quiet week scoring 6 while this week’s lowest scorers were Julia Ashley and Haley Hanson on 4 and 3 respectively. On the bench, Olivia Price would have scored 7 points while Hamilton, Staab and Burke did not play.

Round 6 Preview

Newcastle Jets are the side to miss out this week, so my team is unaffected. I will therefore not use a transfer this week, sticking with the same side.  Brisbane Roar take on Melbourne Victory away so Rylee Baisden will drop to the bench in favour of the returning Kristen Hamilton. Round 6 sees the Sydney derby hosted by WSW, so I am expecting cards, leaving Sam Staab on the bench. Therefore Simone Charley will take the captaincy as Canberra United take on bottom side Adelaide United. The formation will remain as a 4-3-3.
