Who to pick away from the big weekend tie of Chelsea v Manchester City.

This weekend sees another round of action in the WSL with Manchester City facing a trip to Chelsea in a top of the table clash that could decide a frontrunner for the season, even at this early stage of the campaign. As well as this headline tie, all the other ten teams are in action on Sunday:

Man United v Everton (12:00)

Chelsea v Man City (12:00)

Liverpool v West Ham (14:00)

Tottenham v Brighton (14:00)

Reading v Arsenal (14:30)

Bristol City v Birmingham City (15:00)

When it comes to two top teams facing each other, some fantasy players (like myself) may look to avoid the game with other options offering more likely point scoring differentials.

With the Top Two taking on each other this weekend, some managers may be looking to alternative choices to avoid this tie. Below we look at six alternative options for managers to consider:

Defence

Leah Williamson – Arsenal (£45,000)

After Arsenal’s demolition job of Bristol City last weekend, the Gunners will be looking to continue their momentum. This week they face a harder task with Reading hosting. Leah Williamson inspires the side from the back although only 22 years old. The defender has recorded the most deep progressions this season, recording 7.91 per 90 minutes. This attacking pressure from the back is the first step to creating chances for Arsenal with the rally of talent ahead of Williamson, chances and goals are guaranteed. Against Reading, more defensive work is expected giving Williamson the chance to collect another points haul.

Leighanne Robe – Liverpool (£15,000)

When it comes to defensive players, many managers will think of Liverpool last on their list. The benefit of ShePlays however is the amazing bonus point scheme. With points awarded to players for tackles, interceptions and clearances, differentials can be found with a little research. Therefore, Liverpool defender Leighanne Robe is a sure pick having recorded the most tackles in the WSL this season.  With the amount of pressure Liverpool come under, the natural centre back is guaranteed defensive bonus points. Playing at full back will also bring the chance of an attacking return, especially as the Reds face West Ham, a game they have to gain points to curtail their way out of relegation danger.

Midfield

Carla Humphrey – Bristol City (£17,500)

After a mauling at Arsenal last weekend, Bristol City will be looking for a big response. A home tie against Birmingham, a side struggling with injury, is a perfect opportunity for that. Midfielder Carla Humphrey, a product of the Arsenal academy, will be more determined than most for a recovery. Humphrey controls the midfield, and is the main creative force for Bristol. The Robins will need, the 22 year old on top form to pick out opportunities for Yana Daniels, Charlie Wellings and Ebony Salmon.

Lucy Graham – Everton (£17,500)

Everton are the surprise package of the season so far, inspired by the likes of Chloe Kelly, Esme Morgan and captain Lucy Graham to name a few.  With an away fixture at Man United, this will be a big test for Willie Kirk and his Toffees. After scoring at Anfield, captain Graham will be looking to continue her good form after being nominated for the WSL Player of the Month for November. After a postponement with Chelsea last weekend, the Blues will be biting to get back into action and continue their upward charge.

Forward

Ebony Salmon – Bristol City (£17,500)

Another of Bristol City’s young side this campaign. Salmon joined from Man United and brings a bundle of energy to the WSL. The 18 year old will be looking to add to her goal tally so far this campaign with the help of the previously mentioned Humphrey. After creating chances against both Man City and Arsenal in heavy defeats, the fixture with Birmingham will give Salmon to put her name in lights. The England youngster will be excited for the game hoping to prove to the WSL that last week’s drubbing was a one off.

Vivianne Miedema – Arsenal (£80,000)

Do I need to say anything here? If you haven’t got Miedema in your side by now….
