Last week, we covered how fantasy performances from midfielders have been inconsistent so far this season and it’s made selecting your requisite 3-5 a little difficult. Of the premium-price options, only Savannah DeMelo was consistently racking up the fantasy points through the first four weeks. However, with two goals in Round 5, Debinha doubled her season total and has now scored in three consecutive matches for Kansas City. Not only has she scored over half of the Current’s total goals, she also has a significant lead in shots on goal – I’d say that’s worth the $400k.

But unfortunately, you can’t play with only two midfielders. Other than DeMelo and Debinha (let’s call them the DEstroyers until someone thinks of a better nickname), what other midfielders should you focus on this week? If you have the money, the best non-$400k options are Jess Fishlock (leading all MFs in fantasy points) and Crystal Dunn (tied with DeMelo for second). Fishlock is getting more consistent minutes than Dunn – in fact, she’s played every minute of the season so far and is tied with Bethany Balcer for the most goals for OL Reign. At only $250k, she’s probably the third-best option at midfield for the foreseeable future, especially considering the fact that her team is scoring more goals than any other besides Portland.

Of the less expensive options, take a look at the Gotham trio of Kristie Mewis ($250k), Yazmeen Ryan ($150k) and Allie Long ($125k). Gotham is probably the biggest surprise of the season so far, and while most of the goal scoring has been from the forwards, there are some very good fantasy options available in the NJ/NY midfield. Any of these three paired with one of the DEstroyers should be a great core for your midfield. I’d give a slight advantage to Mewis, as she’s creating by far the most chances of any Gotham player, meaning that it’s only a matter of time until she logs a few goals and assists.
