Top of the league Arsenal will host Manchester United for a late Saturday evening kick off (5:30pm) at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal reporting 35,000 tickets have been sold so far. It’s both teams first game back since the November international break.

Arsenal currently sit at the top of the table with a game in hand to second in the table Chelsea. Arsenal  being the only team in the league with a 100% win record so far, something Manchester United will be looking to change. Arsenal’s last game before the international break was a 4-0 win over Leicester City, Frida Maanum, Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Stina Blackstenius the goal scorers. Arsenal are also Top scorers in the league and have conceded the least goals.

Manchester United are currently third in the league, again a game in hand to Chelsea. They have started the season very well winning 5 out of 6 games. Their last game was their first defeat of the season in a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea. Manchester United’s only goal came from Alessia Russo, Chelsea’s coming from Sam Kerr, Lauren James and Erin Cuthbert. They won’t want the same to happen this weekend.

Arsenal Women vs Manchester United Previous Matches

Arsenal and Manchester United have played each other Seven times since 2018, when Manchester United were reformed into  the Championship. The first game being the 2018/19 Continental League Cup semi final. Arsenal won that game  2-1, Vivianne Miedema scoring both of Arsenal’s goals. Arsenal also do generally have the better of United in the head to head just, United have managed to beat Arsenal twice, once in the 20/21 WSL season and during last seasons Continental league cup quarter final, 1-0 to United being the final score in both of those games. This game last season resulted in a 1-1 draw at Meadow Park, a game that arguably cost Arsenal the league title as it was the weekend where the league momentum shifted to favour Chelsea after they managed to beat Manchester City.

Arsenal vs Manchester United League head to head

Frida Maanum is arguably Arsenal’s most in form player, she has scored in the last three of Arsenal league games. When first arriving at Arsenal last season, she featured mainly as an 8 at the start of the season. However her minutes lessened in the second half of the season, when she did come on it was in replacement for Lia Walti, and she would play a lot deeper. This season Frida Maanum has featured more in her natural position as a 10.  Her performances have added to an already decent Arsenal front three. Making it hard for Jonas Eidevall to drop her. In Manchester United attack Ella Toone will pose a threat to Arsenal’s defence. She has scored twice in the league and also gained two assists this season. She recently committed her future to Manchester United signing a contract till 2027. Alessia Russo has also scored against Arsenal in the last two fixtures against each other, both goals being similar and coming from set pieces. Arsenal will have to look out for that again this time around.
